Over five days, travel from the peaceful surroundings of Arusha into the elephant country of Tarangire, across the vast plains of the Serengeti and finally into the remarkable Ngorongoro Crater. Your private vehicle and experienced safari guide stay with you throughout, so each day can respond to the wildlife, the season and your interests. Your vehicle. Your guide. Your pace. Your Tanzania.
Your safari begins the moment you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). After clearing immigration and collecting your luggage, you will be met by your Janel Safaris representative, who will welcome you to Tanzania and assist you with your transfer to Arusha.
The journey to Arusha takes you through the foothills of Mount Meru and into one of Tanzania's most welcoming safari towns. On arrival at your hotel, check in and take time to relax after your flight.
Later, meet your private safari guide for a personal safari briefing. This is your opportunity to discuss the journey ahead, your interests, photography preferences and the type of wildlife experiences you would most like to enjoy.
There is no sightseeing scheduled today. We want you to arrive, settle in and enjoy your first evening in Tanzania feeling completely looked after. Enjoy dinner at your hotel before a good night's rest.
After breakfast, your private safari guide will collect you from the hotel and you will begin your journey towards Tarangire National Park. As you leave Arusha behind, the landscape gradually opens up. Villages and farmland give way to natural woodland and, eventually, the distinctive baobabs of Tarangire.
Enter the park and begin your first game drive. Tarangire is famous for its elephants, and you may find large family groups moving between the ancient trees or gathering around water. You will also have opportunities to see giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, impala and many species of birds. Depending on the season and conditions, your guide will also look for predators.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African bush. Continue your afternoon game drive before heading to your lodge.
Arrive in time to relax, enjoy the surroundings and watch the colours of the landscape change as the sun sets.
After breakfast, leave Tarangire behind and begin the journey towards the Serengeti. The landscape itself becomes part of your safari, with an en-route game drive.
Travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, climbing through the highlands before descending towards the great Serengeti plains.
As you approach the Serengeti, the landscape becomes vast and open, with the horizon stretching in every direction. Depending on the season and where the wildlife is concentrated, you may encounter herds of wildebeest and zebra, giraffes, elephants, buffalo and the predators that follow the movements of the herds.
Arrive at your luxury camp and settle into your tent. As darkness falls, enjoy dinner surrounded by the sounds of the Serengeti, then listen. The wilderness does not become silent at night.
Wake early to the sounds of the Serengeti. After breakfast, head out with your private guide for a morning game drive.
The early morning is a beautiful time to be in the Serengeti. The air is cooler, the light is softer and wildlife is often active before the heat of the day arrives. Your guide will shape the morning around the conditions and what you want to experience.
Later, continue towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As you leave the Serengeti plains behind, the landscape gradually rises towards the highlands. The air becomes cooler and the scenery changes from open grassland to lush volcanic slopes.
Arrive at your lodge on the Ngorongoro Highlands. Then comes one of the most memorable moments of the journey: stand at the crater rim and look down into the vast natural amphitheatre below. From above, you can see the different habitats of the crater spread out beneath you: grasslands, woodland, wetlands and shimmering water.
Tomorrow, you will descend into that landscape. Enjoy dinner and a peaceful evening at your lodge.
After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for your final game drive. The crater is one of Tanzania's most extraordinary wildlife environments, with a remarkable variety of habitats supporting lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, hyenas and, with luck, black rhinoceros.
Your private guide will determine the rhythm of the morning according to wildlife activity and your interests. Take time to enjoy the scenery and photograph the landscape before stopping for a picnic lunch at a designated picnic site.
After lunch, ascend from the crater and begin your journey towards Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
