Tanzania safaris, built around you.
Private vehicles, Tanzanian guides and camps we have stayed in ourselves. Start from one of our itineraries and we rebuild it around your dates, your group and your pace.
Start here. Change anything.
Every itinerary is a starting point. Prices are per person sharing, for a private safari of two, and drop for larger groups.
Safari itineraries are being updated. Ask us for ideas and prices.
Share the vehicle, not the guide.
Fixed dates with up to six travellers and a guaranteed window seat. The same camps as our private trips, at a lower price.
Four steps, two days.
Most of our trips go through two or three drafts before they are right. None of the planning costs anything.
Tell us what you want
A form, an email or a call. Rough dates, who is coming, what you want to see and what you would rather skip.
We draft within two days
A named planner builds a first itinerary: parks, camps, routing and a price. Not a template with your name on it.
You change it
Swap camps, add days, move to a fly-in, bolt on Zanzibar or Kilimanjaro. We redraft until it fits.
We run it on the ground
Our own guides and vehicles, with the Arusha office on call for the whole trip.
Where to go, and why.
The northern circuit holds the famous names and the migration. The south and west are wilder, emptier and mostly reached by light aircraft.
Serengeti
The migration, the big cats and the plains that go on to the horizon.
Ngorongoro Crater
A collapsed volcano with black rhino and the densest lion population in Africa.
Tarangire
Baobabs and elephant herds of several hundred along the river in the dry season.
Lake Manyara
Groundwater forest, flamingo flats and the Rift Valley wall above it all.
Ruaha
Tanzania's largest park, with big lion prides and very few other vehicles.
Nyerere (Selous)
Boat safaris on the Rufiji, walking safaris and wild dog.
Where the herds are, every month.
Around 1.5 million wildebeest circle the Serengeti and Maasai Mara each year, following the rain. Pick a month to see where they usually are and what else that month is like.
What a safari costs.
The camp is the biggest variable. Park fees, the vehicle and the guide cost much the same whichever style you choose.
Mid-range
Comfortable tented camps and lodges in good locations, often just outside park gates.
- Private 4×4 and guide
- En-suite tents or lodge rooms
- Full board on safari
Luxury
Most chosenSmaller camps inside the parks, close to the action, with better food and service.
- Camps inside the park
- Drinks and laundry included
- One internal flight where it saves a day
Ultra-luxury
Exclusive-use villas and private concessions, fly-in between parks.
- Private concessions, off-road driving
- Fly-in between every park
- Private guide throughout
- SeasonThe same camp can cost twice as much in August as in April. Moving a trip by a few weeks is the cheapest saving there is.
- Group sizePer-person costs drop sharply from two to four, because the vehicle and guide are a fixed cost.
- Fly or driveInternal flights buy back a day or two of game viewing. In the south and west they are the only practical option.
- Not includedInternational flights, visas, travel insurance and tips (about $20–30 a day for your guide).

The two things that make a safari.
A good guide finds what others drive past and knows when to wait. Ours are Tanzanian, salaried all year, and drive our own Land Cruisers.
The vehicle
- Toyota Land Cruiser with pop-up roof
- Window seat for every traveller
- Fridge, charging points, binoculars and field guides
- Radio and first-aid kit on board
The guide
- Licensed driver-guides, Tanzanian-born
- First-aid trained, refreshed every year
- English as standard; other languages on request

Questions people ask.
Six to eight days covers the northern circuit properly, with at least two nights in the Serengeti. Four days is enough for Tarangire, Manyara and the crater.
June to October for dry-season game viewing and the river crossings; late January to February for calving. March, May and November are quiet and good value.
All our tailor-made safaris are private. Group departures share a vehicle with up to six travellers, each with a window seat.
Yes. Most camps take children from six, some from two. We keep drive days shorter and choose family tents or lodges with pools.
Malaria prophylaxis is strongly advised. A yellow fever certificate is required if you arrive from a country where the disease is present. Your travel clinic decides the rest.
Most people do. Kilimanjaro first, then safari, then the coast. Zanzibar is a short flight from the Serengeti or Arusha.
